Well said! So many identity groups are based on a core of victimhood. That naturally creates an atmosphere of seeking retribution, shaming, blaming, scapegoating, and reductionist thinking. All identity groups have the potential to be toxic vehicles of hate, isolationist and regressive. It's a pity that so many people build their personal identities around the lies told by these groups, the lie of the mythical "oppressor," the lie that we are far worse off than we actually are, the lie that we are somehow "victimized" by being offended by others' beliefs. It's not oppression that will destroy our species, but narcissism, the notion that our own experience is the only valid one, our pain is the only legitimate pain, coupled with the ill-intensions we automatically ascribe to anyone who isn't in our tribe. Increasingly, identity groups see hate and anger as virtues, and conflate them with "social justice," which could not be further from the truth. Hate spouted from someone in the name of feminism is no different than hate spouted by a member of the KKK. Hate serves no cause but mindless destruction, and those who espouse it in any form for any cause are the enemy of peace, of justice, and of human progress.
