Self-help lit usually suggests a false-dichotomy between idealism and utilitarianism--as though the two could not coexist. If simple solutions, magical thinking, and mere platitudes could "manifest abundance" we'd all be feckin' millionaires by now! I hear what you're saying about your boss too. I never trust someone unless their actions are in concordance with the front they present--particularly people who have power over me. There are plenty of kind-hearted people who frown all the time, and assholes who smile, laugh and charm others even as they screw them over without a care in the world.
