I couldn't disagree more. Far better to attempt to understand someone's experience and not get it right, then to not try at all. Political correctness consultants and so-called "sensitivity trainers" certainly should not be thought-policing fiction writers' word choices; farming out your thinking (and censoring) to someone else only leaves one more ignorant in the end, and strips the author of their voice. When did accidentally offending someone suddenly become the worse crime you could commit?
